Paul’s Place

Paul's Place

Paul’s Place is hands down one of the best restaurants in Hilo. Located just down the beach from the Hilo airport, this is a great place to stop by before or after your helicopter tour! Everything in the restaurant is made with fresh, local, ingredients by Chef Paul Cubio. Menu options include a little something for every dietary need, all while maintaining the excellence this restaurant is known for. Some of the menu highlights include the can’t miss fish bowl and their famous waffles! Paul’s Place itself is quaint with only a few tables. We recommend that you make a reservation in advance.

Moon and Turtle

Japanese, Seafood $$-$$$

For a fix of Japanese inspired cuisine, make your way over to Moon and Turtle. Also located conveniently close to the Hilo airport, this restaurant is another great addition to a day in Hilo. The main features of the menu at Moon and Turtle are the fresh fishes. Their fish is typically served in sashimi and sushi form, and they are melt in your mouth good. Moon and Turtle’s menu isn’t as varied as other restaurants, but they know what they do well and commit to it. If you are in Hilo, this is definitely the place if you’re craving fresh fish!

Pineapple’s Island Fresh Cuisine

Another great option in the heart of Hilo is Pineapple’s Island Fresh Cuisine. As the name suggests, Pineapple’s specialize in a true Hawaiian delicacy, the Pineapple. They have many dishes that feature our famous fruit, as well a few on tap beers! If you are looking for quality food and drink, with some great laid back old Hawaiian atmosphere, Pineapple’s is your place.

Suisan is the place to go if you are looking for the Hawaiian delicacy, Poke. Poke is a raw fish, rice, and vegetable mixture that is otherworldly delicious and Suisan makes the best bowl in Hilo. Their fish menu and topping options are varied and as fresh as they come. Located in downtown Hilo, they are a great place if you are looking for a quick stop in for lunch or dinner.

Hilo Bay Cafe

American, Contemporary $$$

For an all around great dining experience, head to Hilo Bay Cafe. Located just down the street from Suisan, this cafe is known for its view. You get to enjoy an amazing meal, all while looking out onto the beautiful bay. The menu features many fresh fishes from the beautiful bay you are looking out on, as well as an extensive cocktail menu. Great for lunch and dinner this cafe is really a great option if you are looking for a more refined meal in Hilo.

This is just a sampling of the many great establishments located in downtown Hilo. We highly advise spending some time to wander around the quaint downtown area. It is truly one of the last places that feel like the ‘Old Hawaii’.
